Black Sun (by car)

The Black Sun phenomenon is a marvellous experience when thousands of starlings dance a ballet in the evening sky. The black sun can be a nature experience and a natural phenomenon in a class of its own.

The dance of the starlings is a dance of life and death. The beautiful formations are determined by the number of birds of prey that hunt the starlings. The nature guides observe the starlings in the days leading up to the tour and do their best to find the starlings' nightly resting place. However, there are no guarantees when it comes to nature - no one knows exactly how the evening will turn out. That's what makes it so exciting. Join us on an interesting and educational journey where the nature guide will tell you much more about the wonderful life of the starlings.

As we are standing still while waiting for the starlings to arrive and their dance can last until after sunset, it is necessary to dress warmly, with a hat, wool and windproof and waterproof outerwear. You may also want to bring food, coffee and a sitting mat while you wait. In wet terrain we may have to walk up to 1 kilometre. So bring some sensible waterproof footwear.

IMPORTANT: We meet in Ribe. The address of the meeting point is stated on the ticket. We drive our own cars from the meeting point to the starlings.
