Skjern Vindmølle
This summer, Skjern Windmill offers a unique experience for the whole family. You can come and see art and culture in the granary. Volunteer millers from Ringkøbing Fjord Museums are also ready to talk about the history of wind power and the technology behind the wind turbine.
Skjern Vindmølle has stood proudly in the landscape of West Jutland for more than 100 years and has been in three different locations. The careful restoration has preserved the historic character and authentic details of the turbine from a time when wind power really became an important energy source. During the summer holidays, you can see the large mill in action and watch the miller grind flour.
Volunteers keep the mill running
A dedicated group of local volunteers have mastered the techniques of the windmill and are on hand to demonstrate their skills every Monday from 1 July to 5 August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The commitment of the volunteers is vital to the future of the windmill and they play an important role in preserving this cultural heritage.
Art and culture in the granary
Every Sunday, volunteer artists also display their work in the old granary. This gives visitors an extra dimension of local culture and creativity while enjoying the historic atmosphere of the mill.
The history of wind power
Wind power is far from a new energy source in Denmark. Since the Middle Ages, windmills have been part of the landscape. Skjern Vindmølle, a Dutch windmill, is an example of this development. For those who want to delve deeper into the history of wind power, a visit to Naturkraft is recommended. Here, the exhibition "Wind Power" takes visitors on a journey through the development of wind turbines, from the first stump turbines to modern wind turbines.
