Hvide Sande has it all. Town life. Harbour life. The beach. Angling and delicious food. If you come by for an afternoon, or if you have several days in this area, you can always find great adventure and experiences here.

Hvide Sande is a town with deep roots in the fishing industry, and this is evident in the town's atmosphere. The fishing harbour is the lifeblood of the town and a fascinating place to visit. The weather on the North Sea coast can be changeable, so it's always a good idea to be prepared for a bit of everything. The city's surrounding nature is another great attraction; the vast sand dunes and the wild North Sea provide fantastic nature experiences. In the summer, the city comes alive with markets and concerts by the canal, adding a nice touch to the already cosy atmosphere.

The city between fjord and sea

In Hvide Sande you get the real thing. The town is young, but for a few generations, ice-cold salt water has run through the blood of the locals. Here they grow up with a deep respect for the sea. This love for the North Sea flows through the city's streets, alleys, shops and eateries. The fishing that gave and took life lives on in the stories - and is the nerve centre of the town, where a motley crew of tireless entrepreneurs set course for new adventures and good fishing spots. People here are used to fending for themselves, and it shows.

Your heart rate automatically rises when you drive into Hvide Sande. The charming gem located between Ringkøbing Fjord and the North Sea beckons to those who want to ride the waves or simply enjoy the spectacular seascape. The atmosphere in the town is characterised by genuine West Jutland charm, local specialities, where friendly people and a relaxed atmosphere create a welcoming setting for your visit. Whether you're looking for adventure on the water, delicious gastronomic experiences or just tranquillity and natural beauty, Hvide Sande is the ideal place to experience the best of Denmark's west coast.

It is true(t)

The south beach at Hvide Sande is a must-visit - whether you're looking for a walk along the water, a surfing trip on the blue wave or building sandcastles. The beach is particularly known for its fine sand, its location behind the high dunes that provide shelter and good surfing conditions. Every year, tourists and locals alike come to swim, socialise and try their hand at all kinds of water sports.

Before you jump on the board and get surfing, it's a good idea to pop into WestWind. The shop specialises in all equipment for surfing and beach life and you'll find a wide selection of quality products. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer, WestWind will have everything you need to make the most of your time on the water. In addition to the equipment, they also offer courses in different types of surfing; kite-surfing, SUP-boards and wind-surfing.

Awaken all senses through numerous experiences

The dunes, Æ sea mountains, rise impressively as a defence between sea and city. With plenty of small pots where you can soak up the sun sheltered from the coastal wind. In the dune landscape north of the town, Lyngvig Lighthouse - the last lighthouse built in Denmark - towers above the seaweed. It still sends out light signals to the seafarers of the North Sea - but only for the sake of cosiness. If you follow in the footsteps of the lighthouse keeper, who has worn marks on the 159 steps up the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the narrow strip of dune heath between sea and fjord, the various birds that have chosen to breed around the lighthouse and the large flocks of herons that move around the area. Here you can see the difference between the sometimes churning sea and the normally quieter fjord, and in clear weather you can see for miles.

Hvide Sande is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. The town is known for its excellent surfing opportunities, both for beginners and experienced surfers. For fishing enthusiasts, you can go to a real fish auction in the summer and bid on fresh catches from the sea. You can visit Fiskeriets Hus and try their petting pool where you can both touch and feed the fish. If you're new to surfing, the flat waters of the fjord will gently ease you into the water sport that's hard to shake off.

A well-known mecca for all water lovers is Kabelbanen, where both professionals and amateurs frolic in the fjord. The SUPs may start on the fjord, but you'll eventually get out to sea. Both championships and other competitions are held in the city - here is a surfing environment that will make any board enthusiast drool. Café OMHU was created by surfers Katrine and Daniel, who work to raise awareness about marine plastic and have collected 27 tonnes of plastic from the sea since 2020. Every week, volunteers, tourists and locals gather to pick up litter on the beaches, helping to keep the beaches clean. Every year in September, Scandinavia's largest water sports festival brings together windsurfers, kitesurfers, surfers, stand-up paddlers, wingfoilers and many more for a joint water sports party. It's called WATERZ and you can join in even if you're a beginner.

The city is the ideal starting point for families, couples and young people who love an active holiday in a city with a high pulse. If you need a rest, Abelines Gaard is worth a visit. Here you step into a time capsule and a chance to experience life on the west coast 100 years ago. Another way to unwind is with a more tranquil activity: beach yoga. Feel the sand between your toes and stretch your body in yoga poses as the wind kisses your cheeks and the waves hit the shore in time with your pulse. If beach yoga can't get your heart rate down, nature will surely help you on your way. Close your eyes and enjoy the classical music that fills the town every year in September when Hvide Sande Masterclass is held. Here you can listen to classical concerts along the fjord and participate in open masterclasses.

Hvide Sande is an ideal day trip during your North Sea holiday, unless you choose to stay in a cosy holiday apartment in the middle of town, in a holiday home within walking distance of the town centre, or in a historic dune farm that has been converted into a surf-themed bed and breakfast.
